The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship just keeps on giving. After a brilliant weekend of dramatic football, this morning’s draw has promised us another enthralling two days of action this coming weekend. Kerry will play Armagh in Killarney, Donegal will travel to the capital, Mayo will host Meath and Monaghan will face Leinster Champions Westmeath in Clones.
The reigning All Ireland champions will host the 2024 champions on Saturday. Throw in time is 16:00. for what is set up to be an epic in Fitzgerald Stadium. Kerry, with players returning from injury and being drawn at home are the slight early favourites to book their spot in the Quarter Finals but Armagh will be coming with a point to prove after their loss to Louth and looking to avenge their Quarter Final defeat to the Kingdom last year. GAA+ are the broadcasters for this fixture.
After Ger Brennan indicating his desire for Dublin to play in Parnell Park if they were to be drawn at home, the GAA have decided that Croke Park will be Dublin’s home venue for them to face league Champions Donegal. This is set up to be another wonderful contest. Donegal will be favourites but if Dublin can find a performance, they could pull off what would be considered an upset. The game is fixed for 13:15 on Sunday and will be televised on RTÉ.
Monaghan in Clones will be a massive test for a Westmeath side that are full of spirit. Despite last weekend’s defeat in Salthill, the Leinster champions will still have plenty of confidence. The hosts are coming off the back of a fantastic result against Connacht winners Roscommon. Another tough game to call where home advantage could prove crucial. This will take place at 16:00 Sunday and will be shown on GAA+.
Lastly, Castlebar will hold Mayo vs Meath. It is set up to be an exciting game that probably will be played in front of a capacity crowd. Meath will need another top-quality professional performance away from home to remain in the Championship, while Mayo will have to tighten up at the back and hope their attacking talent have enough to see them through. GAA+ will also screen this game which takes place at 18:15 Saturday.
Galway, Cork, Louth and Tyrone await this weekend’s four victors in the Quarter Finals which will take place the following Saturday and Sunday in Croke Park.
